Brazil residential fires claim child and dog in separate incidents

A fire in a two‑storey house in the Paecará neighbourhood of Guarujá, São Paulo, killed a 3‑year‑old girl and injured her 7‑year‑old sister, who suffered burns on her feet. The blaze began on the upper floor of the residence that sits above commercial premises. Firefighters and police responded, finding the younger child carbonized after residents had partially extinguished the flames.

In Torres, Rio Grande do Sul, a house in the Barro Cortado area was destroyed by fire, killing the family’s pet dog. Police suspect the blaze was deliberately set in a domestic‑violence context; witnesses say the woman’s former partner ignited the home and fled. No family members were inside at the time, and the suspect remains at large.
