Brazil retirement survey shows gap between desire and reality
A recent survey conducted by Datafolha for the National Federation of Private Pension and Life (Fenaprevi) reveals a significant gap between the retirement desires and expectations of Brazilians. While 59% of respondents wish to retire by age 60, only 28% believe they will actually be able to leave the workforce by that age.
Financial uncertainty is widespread, with 65% of those surveyed stating they do not know the value they will receive from the National Social Security Institute (INSS) upon retirement. The data also highlights the role of citizens as providers, noting that 61% are the primary financial providers for their households, with 36% covering all domestic expenses alone.
Experts suggest that increasing life expectancy necessitates more robust financial planning that accounts for housing, health, and leisure. Professionals recommend that workers regularly verify their social security history through the National Social Information Registry (CNIS) to avoid discrepancies when applying for benefits.
