Brazil road accidents drive 62% of cargo losses

Accidents have become the primary cause of cargo loss in Brazilian road transport, accounting for 62% of losses in 2024. According to data from Pamcary, accidents occurred 4.5 times more frequently than cargo theft, with 2.36 accidents recorded for every 10,000 monitored trips compared to 0.53 instances of theft.

The National Confederation of Transport (CNT) estimates that truck-related accidents on federal highways cost approximately R$ 5.1 billion in 2024, a figure that includes both cargo losses and costs associated with fatalities. Rollovers and capsizing represent 54% of these accidents, and 40.4% involved vehicles transporting hazardous or polluting products.

In the state of Acre, traffic accidents increased by approximately 11.9% during the first seven months of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025. While the volume of incidents rose to 2,871, the number of fatalities remained stable at 39 deaths. The capital, Rio Branco, saw a 7.1% increase in traffic incidents during the same period.
