Brazil road deaths claim two youths in separate accidents

A 20‑year‑old woman, Rayane Camila Fernandes Kunz, died in a front‑end collision on the morning of 9 May in Caxias do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul. She was driving a Renault Clio that struck a Mercedes‑B200 on Rua Governador Euclides Triches near the Rota do Sol (RSC‑453). The impact was severe; she died at the scene and the other driver was injured and taken to Hospital Unimed. Police, the Brigada Militar, fire services and forensic investigators secured the site and began examining vehicle positions, braking marks and road conditions.

On the same day a 17‑year‑old boy, Gabriel Alves Martins, was killed in Rio do Antônio, southwestern Bahia. He rode a motorcycle on a rural road leading to Fazenda Mucicir, lost control on a curve and collided head‑on with a pickup. Emergency responders arrived, but he was already deceased; his body was sent to the Instituto Médico Legal in Brumado. Both tragedies underline ongoing concerns about road safety, signage and speed management on newly paved or rural highways in Brazil.
