Brazil road freight costs rise in September
Road freight costs in Brazil increased by 0.57% in September, reaching an average of R$ 8.77 per kilometer driven, according to the Edenred Road Freight Index (IFR). This rise follows an August average of R$ 8.72.
The increase is attributed to rising fuel prices and high demand from the agribusiness sector, particularly in exports. Diesel S-10 prices rose by 2.70% to a national average of R$ 7.24 per liter, while common diesel increased by 1.33% to R$ 6.84 per liter. The fuel price surge is linked to international oil price escalations driven by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
Due to the fuel price fluctuations exceeding 5% in certain regions, the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT) issued Ordinance SUROC No. 22. This regulatory update, effective September 30, adjusts the reference value of diesel S-10 used to calculate minimum freight floors, as mandated by Law No. 13.703/2018.
