Brazil road freight prices rise 1.04% in August
The average road freight price per kilometer rose by 1.04% in August, reaching R$ 8.72 compared to R$ 8.63 in July, according to the Edenred Road Freight Index (IFR). This increase occurred despite a fourth consecutive month of declining diesel prices, with common diesel falling 1.17% to R$ 6.70 per liter and S-10 diesel decreasing 0.70% to R$ 7.05 per liter.
Several factors contributed to the rise in freight costs. The implementation of Law No. 15,485/2026, known as the Minimum Freight Law, has increased enforcement by the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT) regarding minimum price compliance and the issuance of the Transport Operation Identifier Code (CIOT). Additionally, the end of the second corn harvest increased demand for trucks.
Market analysts suggest that freight costs may remain high in September due to corn price fluctuations and climate uncertainties related to El Niño affecting future harvests.
