Brazil road freight prices rise 13% year-on-year in Q3 2026
The average road freight price in the spot market reached R$ 0.396 per ton-kilometer in the third quarter of 2026, representing a 13% increase compared to the same period in 2025. However, prices fell by 5.2% compared to the second quarter of 2026.
According to the Frete.com Price Freight Index (IFP), the annual price increase was driven by factors such as the rising cost of S-10 diesel, which increased approximately 15% year-on-year to an average of R$ 7.01 per liter. While freight prices rose annually, the decline in prices relative to the previous quarter, combined with stable diesel costs, suggests a compression of operational margins for autonomous transporters.
The agribusiness sector accounted for 47.3% of published freight during the quarter. This figure represents a 27.1% decrease compared to the third quarter of 2025, largely attributed to the closing of the harvest outflow window, but a 31.1% increase compared to the second quarter of 2026.
