Brazil road projects pause traffic for major beam installations
In Novo Hamburgo, Rio Grande do Sul, six pre‑cast beams weighing about 20 tonnes each were lifted by two cranes and positioned on the lower passage of the BR‑116 tunnel project on 16 July. The operation required a total blockage of the highway in the capital‑interior direction, but the impact on traffic was described as minor.
Separately, the National Department of Transport Infrastructure (DNIT) announced temporary closures on the BR‑280 between Guaramirim and Araquari, Santa Catarina, on 27‑28 July. Twelve beams will be moved from the construction site at km 50 to the installation point at km 46, with momentary stoppages from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Motorists are advised to anticipate delays and follow signage.
Both projects are part of wider road‑duplication efforts aimed at improving safety and traffic flow in their respective regions.
