Brazilian towns launch June campaigns to protect elderly residents

Municipal and social‑service groups in Brazil are conducting a series of activities in June to raise awareness of elderly rights and combat violence against seniors. In Cachoeira do Sul, the local Sesc office organized an educational blitz on June 19, distributing information and speaking directly with drivers and pedestrians about neglect, abuse, and financial exploitation. A Sesc program coordinator said the effort aims to “involve the community in a collective reflection on respect and responsibility for protecting older people.”

Meanwhile, in Campo Grande several Cras centers, senior community centers and partner NGOs are running the “Junho Prata” campaign, offering cultural performances, health talks, and discussion groups on topics such as the Elderly Statute, fall prevention and social isolation. Municipal social‑assistance officials highlighted the importance of these actions for strengthening community bonds and ensuring dignified aging.

The coordinated actions across multiple municipalities illustrate a broader push by Brazilian social services to promote active aging, safeguard seniors from violence, and foster community engagement.
