Brazil salary deadline set for October 6

Under the Consolidation of Labor Laws (CLT), the deadline for employers to pay September salaries to workers under the CLT regime is Tuesday, October 6, 2026. This date represents the fifth business day of the month.

According to the legal counting rules, Saturdays are considered business days for salary payment purposes, even if the employee does not work on that day. Sundays and national holidays, such as the election day on Sunday, October 4, are excluded from the count. The sequence for October 2026 is: October 1 (Thursday) as the first business day, October 2 (Friday) as the second, October 3 (Saturday) as the third, October 5 (Monday) as the fourth, and October 6 (Tuesday) as the fifth.

While October 6 is the general legal deadline, companies may choose to pay earlier. Additionally, specific collective bargaining agreements or union contracts may establish different terms or more favorable conditions for certain professional categories. If payments are delayed beyond the legal limit, workers may seek assistance from their unions, the Ministry of Labor and Employment, or the Labor Court.
