Brazil seeks to link rare earth minerals to Manaus Industrial Pole
The state of Amazonas has the potential to expand its role in the critical minerals and rare earth elements supply chain by linking mineral occurrences in the state's interior to the industrial structure of the Manaus Industrial Pole.
Brazil holds the world's second-largest reserve of rare earth elements, estimated at 21 million tons, or approximately 23% of the global total, trailing only China. However, the country faces challenges in mastering advanced production stages, such as element separation, oxide production, and the manufacturing of high-tech components like magnets and motors.
Realizing this potential requires advancements in research, technology, infrastructure, financing, and regulatory security. Recent shifts in financing for critical minerals include the Eco Invest Brasil auction, which allocates up to R$ 2.5 billion from the National Treasury toward innovation chains, including critical mineral processing and energy storage systems.
