Brazil sees 60% of adults engaged in volunteering, survey shows

A Datafolha survey tracking volunteerism in Brazil for the past 25 years found that 60% of residents aged 16 and older have taken part in some form of volunteer work, up from 18% in 2001. The study estimates roughly 60 million active volunteers, with 41 million participating regularly and 19 million on an occasional basis. Self‑initiated volunteering rose to 83% of entrants, while corporate volunteering remained steady at about 9% of all entry points.

The Brazilian Corporate Volunteering Census 2025 reported 34 000 corporate volunteer actions that benefited 7.3 million people, highlighting the growing role of businesses in supporting community projects. Advocates cite benefits such as stronger communities, skill development for volunteers, and new professional networks.
