Brazil vehicle registrations up 10% in July, third-best month

In July, Brazil recorded 504,574 vehicle registrations, a 10.17% increase over the same month last year and 3.31% higher than June, making it the third‑best July on record according to the Federação Nacional da Distribuição de Veículos Automotores (Fenabrave). Cars and light commercial vehicles rose 15.54% year‑on‑year to 265,695 units, while trucks rebounded with an 18.89% month‑on‑month gain and a 7.16% year‑on‑year increase. Buses grew modestly 4.26% month‑on‑month but remain 2.32% below the previous July.

Fenabrave president Arcelio Junior attributed the surge to government incentives. The “Carro Sustentável” program lowered IPI rates for lighter, more efficient models, boosting sales of those vehicles by 29.4% compared with the pre‑program period. The “Move Brasil” credit scheme for drivers supported the recovery in the heavy‑vehicle segment. Fenabrave projects overall vehicle sales to grow about 8.6% in 2026, reaching roughly 5.3 million units for the year.
