Five killed in collision on Brazil's BR-470 near Campos Novos
A severe traffic crash on the federal highway BR-470 near Campos Novos resulted in five fatalities. The accident occurred around 7:30 a.m. at kilometre 335.4 when a Volkswagen Voyage, registered to Capinzal, collided head‑on with an Iveco S‑Way 6×2 truck from Horizontina (RS). The impact shattered the Voyage, which broke in half, and trapped two occupants under the truck. All five occupants of the car – driver Michelle Domingues, 39, and four male passengers aged 27 to 37 – died at the scene. Three victims were identified as residents of Capinzal: Michelle Domingues, Eliel Francisco dos Santos, 27, and Lucas Ribeiro. The Federal Highway Police (PRF) is investigating the cause of the collision while the local community mourns the loss.
Authorities recovered the bodies, and the scene was secured by firefighters and emergency services. No further injuries were reported.
