Brazil sees unprecedented surge in international tourism

Brazil is experiencing an unprecedented surge in tourism, according to recent data. As of July 1, the country saw a 13.3 percent increase in tourists, reaching 3.5 million visitors, with an additional 5.25 million arriving via land routes.

Growth has been observed across multiple global markets. Asian markets grew by 18.8 percent, led by a 55 percent increase from China. European markets rose by 16 percent, with notable increases from France (37 percent), Portugal (26 percent), Spain (22 percent), Germany (17 percent), and the United Kingdom (11 percent). Within South America, Brazil saw significant rises in visitors from Colombia (33 percent), Peru (21 percent), Argentina (16 percent), and Chile (6 percent).

A report from the OECD, titled ‘Tourism Trends and Policies 2026’, highlights that Brazil recorded a 46 percent growth in international arrivals between 2019 and 2025. The country’s visitor numbers rose from 6.35 million in 2019 to 9.29 million last year, outperforming the growth rates of established markets such as Japan, Portugal, Spain, and France.
