Brazilian Senate forwards 6x1 work scale and security PECs to CCJ
Senate President Davi Alcolumbre has officially forwarded two major Constitutional Amendment Proposals (PECs) to the Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ). These include PEC 221/2019, which seeks to end the 6x1 work scale, and PEC 18/2025, which addresses Public Security reorganization.
For the 6x1 proposal, Senator Omar Aziz has been appointed as the rapporteur. The amendment aims to reduce the maximum weekly workload from 44 to 40 hours and guarantee two days of paid weekly rest without reducing salaries. The transition plan includes a reduction to 42 hours within the first two months, eventually reaching 40 hours after 12 months. This matter was previously approved by the Chamber of Deputies in May.
Regarding Public Security, Senator Rogério Carvalho will serve as the rapporteur for PEC 18/2025. This proposal aims to reorganize the national security system, including the allocation of sports betting revenue to national security and penitentiary funds. Both proposals require approval in the CCJ before proceeding to a full Senate vote, where they must secure at least 49 votes in two rounds to be promulgated.
