Brazil Senate election 2026 seen as pivotal for renewal and impeachment votes

Senator Plínio Valério (PSDB‑AM) said the 2026 Senate race will be the most important election next year, urging voters to ask candidates whether they would support impeachment proceedings against Supreme Court justices Alexandre de Moraes and Flávio Dino and to check if candidates have pending cases before the Court. He stressed that the Senate alone can authorize such impeachments and that the vote will shape the balance of power between the legislature and the judiciary.

Senator Ciro Nogueira (Progressistas) expressed confidence in his own re‑election bid and backed fellow party member Joel Rodrigues for governor of Piauí. At a party event in Teresina, he announced Jeová Alencar as the pre‑candidate for vice‑governor on Rodrigues’ ticket, highlighting the party’s optimism about winning state offices in the 2026 elections.
