Brazil Senate faces pressure to approve repeal of 6×1 work schedule

The national president of Brazil's Workers' Party, Edinho Silva, announced a social‑media mobilisation for Monday to urge the Senate to vote on the constitutional amendment that would end the 6‑day work‑scale (6×1). The amendment, championed by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, has already passed the Chamber of Deputies and now seeks Senate approval.

The Federation of Oil Workers (FUP) and affiliated unions have also pressed the Senate to vote before the parliamentary recess beginning on the 18th. They argue that higher productivity and technology should translate into a shorter workweek without wage cuts, citing low labour‑cost impact for Petrobras and broader economic studies that predict minimal cost effects.

Both the PT leadership and the oil‑workers federation are mobilising supporters and framing the reform as a way to give workers more time for family, health, study and professional development.
