Brazil Senate leader Jaques Wagner implicated in Master Bank corruption investigation

Operation Compliance Zero, led by Brazil's Federal Police, is probing the alleged corruption scheme surrounding Banco Master and its owner, businessman Daniel Vorcaro. The investigation has resulted in searches and questioning of several high‑profile politicians. Former Bolsonaro administration chief of staff Ciro Nogueira, former senator Flávio Bolsonaro, Senate president Davi Alcolumbre and Senate government leader Jaques Wagner have all declared themselves innocent amid the probe.

The probe has drawn political attention at home and abroad; President Luiz Inácio Lula, speaking at the G‑7 summit in France, denied any “left‑wing” label while the corruption allegations continue to unfold. Federal Police reports suggest a network of financial benefits and favors linking Vorcaro to members of Brazil’s executive, legislative and judicial branches.
