Brazil Senate leaders reject alleged $30‑$70 million payments from bank Master

Senator Jaques Wagner (PT‑BA) said he will remain the government leader in the Senate until President Luiz Inácio Lula decides otherwise and confirmed his intention to run for re‑election in 2026. Wagner, who was targeted by a Federal Police operation investigating suspected payments linked to Banco Master, said President Lula called to express solidarity and confidence. He denied receiving any money from the bank or its owner, stating the cash seized represented travel allowances totaling about US$ 70,000, and refuted allegations about an apartment purchase for his daughter.

Senate president Davi Alcolumbre (União‑AP) also denied accusations that he received around US$ 30 million from bank owner Daniel Vorcaro, describing the claims as false and intended to damage his reputation. Alcolumbre said no such funds were ever transferred to him and called for a thorough investigation of the allegations, which were first reported by Veja. He received solidarity from Wagner and other senators following his remarks.
