Senator Weverton Rocha's family searches deemed premature by PGR

The Prosecutor General’s Office (PGR) classified the Federal Police’s searches of lawyer Willer Tomaz and the relatives of Senator Weverton Rocha (PDT‑MA) as “precipitadas” (premature). The PGR report argued that the investigation could rely on bank‑secrecy and fiscal‑secrecy breaks, and that overt searches risk exposing the probe.

Despite the PGR’s objection, Supreme Court Minister André Mendonça authorized nine search and seizure warrants, allowing the operation – called “Operação Sem Desconto” – to proceed. The operation, conducted by the Federal Police and the Office of the Comptroller‑General, targets a suspected billion‑real scheme of irregular discounts on INSS pensions and retiree benefits, with alleged money‑laundering and asset‑hiding involving the senator’s circle.

Senator Rocha posted a video citing coverage by CNN Brasil, Veja, Valor Econômico and O Globo, emphasizing the media’s role and asserting that he is a victim of political persecution. He maintains that the financial movements under investigation stem from legitimate professional and business activities that were declared to tax authorities.
