Brazil drivers face July 2026 tax and registration deadlines
In Brazil's Federal District, the final installment of the 2026 IPVA vehicle tax is due this week, with payments staggered by license‑plate ending from Monday 20 to Friday 24 March. Failure to pay on time may attract interest and penalties. Rates remain 3 % for passenger cars, 2 % for motorcycles, 1 % for trucks, and about 1.3 million vehicles are subject.
In the state of São Paulo, owners of vehicles whose plates end in 1 or 2 must complete the annual licensing and obtain an updated CRLV‑e by 31 July 2026. They must clear the R$ 174.08 licensing fee and any outstanding IPVA, fines or other debts before the digital document is issued. The deadline applies to passenger vehicles, buses, trailers and semi‑trailers; trucks with the same plate endings have a September deadline.
