Brazil's ANP to hold record oil auction of 35 areas in October

The National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) announced that two oil‑exploration auctions will be held on 7 October, featuring a record 35 areas up for bid – 13 pre‑sal blocks in the 4th Cycle of Partition and 22 concession sectors in the 6th Cycle of Concession. Companies must submit a declaration of interest with a guarantee of offer by 31 August; so far 12 firms have done so for the concession sectors and six for the pre‑sal blocks.

The auction list, published in the Official Gazette, also includes a block in the Tacutu basin on the Brazil‑Guyana border, overlapping nine indigenous lands. Past auctions are cited: the 3rd Cycle of Partition in October 2025 sold five of seven blocks, generated signing bonuses of almost R$ 104 billion and required a minimum exploration investment of R$ 451.5 million; the 5th Cycle of Concession in June 2025 signed 34 contracts, collected about R$ 989 million in bonuses and set a minimum investment of roughly R$ 1.5 billion.
