Brazil single-person households face gendered challenges

A study by Verisure highlights the differing challenges faced by men and women living alone in Brazil, where the number of single-person households has increased by 6.4 million over the last decade according to IBGE data.

Women prioritize home security, with 48.4% citing it as their primary concern, compared to 35.6% of men. This vulnerability leads to higher adoption of physical reinforcements, monitoring cameras, and integrated alarm systems among women. In contrast, 44.6% of men identify loneliness as their greatest fear, followed closely by the financial pressures of managing a household alone.
