Brazil Starts Major Infrastructure Projects in Bahia, Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo

The state government of Bahia has begun land‑based works on the Salvador‑Itaparica Bridge after receiving all required environmental licences. The 12.4‑km bridge, set to become the longest in Latin America, will initially create about 200 direct jobs and is projected to generate roughly 7,000 jobs overall, linking Salvador with the island of Itaparica and serving an estimated 250 municipalities.

In São Gonçalo, Rio de Janeiro, the municipal administration and the state government are advancing a multi‑year road‑improvement program. Works on the Itaitindiba road and streets in the Sacramento and Santa Izabel districts include drainage, paving, sidewalks and curbs. The program totals R$ 52.6 million, with R$ 130 million earmarked for 126 roads in Sacramento and R$ 174 million for 42 km of streets in Santa Izabel. Over half of the Sacramento works are complete, while roughly a third of the Santa Izabel interventions are finished.

In Viana, Espírito Santo, a R$ 40 million macrodrenage scheme has commenced to eliminate chronic flooding between the BR‑101 highway and the Marcílio de Noronha neighbourhood. Using the tunnel‑liner method, two parallel underground tunnels will channel rainwater to the Rio Formate, ending all flood interruptions. The 18‑month project also includes a new municipal early‑childhood education centre and the restoration of the 17th Police Battalion.
