Brazil steel and cement sales rise in August 2026

In August 2026, Brazil's steel and cement industries reported growth in sales. According to Instituto Aço Brasil, domestic steel sales rose 1.8% year-on-year to 1.9 million tons. While apparent steel consumption increased by 2.3% to 2.2 million tons, crude steel production saw a 6.2% decline, falling to 2.7 million tons.

Steel exports grew by 13% in volume and 23.6% in value, reaching US$ 707 million. Conversely, steel imports decreased by 19.5% in volume compared to August 2025.

The Brazilian cement industry also saw an uptick, with sales reaching 6.1 million tons in August, a 1.9% increase from the previous year. The National Union of the Cement Industry (SNIC) noted that demand is being driven by a strong labor market and housing dynamics, particularly through the 'Minha Casa, Minha Vida' program, which saw a 15.5% increase in sales compared to the same period in 2025.
