Brazil STF confidence drops amid institutional crisis

A survey by Instituto Meio/Ideia indicates that 49.7% of Brazilians have little or no confidence in the Supremo Tribunal Federal (STF). The data shows that 21.3% have no confidence and 28.4% have little confidence in the court.

This decline in trust coincides with an institutional crisis within the Supreme Court involving investigations into the Banco Master case. Tensions escalated following the release of Federal Police reports regarding connections between Minister Alexandre de Moraes and former banker Daniel Vorcaro. In response to allegations of irregular intelligence gathering, Minister André Mendonça ordered the removal of Federal Police Director-General Andrei Rodrigues.

A forthcoming Quaest poll will further examine public perception of the STF, the Presidency, and Congress, alongside the 2026 presidential election scenarios. The study aims to gauge how the ongoing friction between magistrates and the Banco Master investigation influences voter sentiment.
