Brazil street running market expands amid focus on safety and professionalization

The street running and outdoor sports market in Brazil is undergoing a period of professionalization and rapid expansion. The number of street races held per weekend in the country has increased from 22 in 2017 to 60 today, according to data from Ticket Sports.

This growth has shifted the industry focus toward quality, unique experiences, and athlete safety. At the 1st ABRACEO Regional South Summit in Florianópolis, organizers discussed the challenges of a saturated market where competition for participants is increasing. To address safety, the 'Corrida Segura' initiative was highlighted, aiming to standardize medical planning, risk identification, and emergency protocols.

Significant progress has been made through a cooperation agreement between the Brazilian Athletics Confederation (CBAt), ABRACEO, and the Brazilian Society of Exercise and Sports Medicine (SBMEE). This collaboration led to the publication of the Safety and Emergency Plan for Street Races by CBAt, which provides operational guidelines to ensure the physical integrity of participants.
