Brazil study links workplace mental‑health disorders to large corporate costs
A Gattaz Health analysis of a Brazilian firm with 339 staff found that 64 employees who left the company had markedly higher levels of depression and anxiety a year before departure. The study cites U.S. CDC estimates that workplace psychological distress cost about $100 billion in 2021 and global research that mental‑health disorders may waste over $1 trillion in productivity each year.
Environmental entrepreneur Tatiana Perim argues that rising burnout and anxiety also stem from a broader disconnect between human activity and natural systems. She stresses that “we are living the consequences of a deep rupture, when we deconstruct the perception that we belong to living systems,” and calls for organizational models inspired by ecosystem cycles to curb unsustainable growth and improve employee well‑being.
