Brazil: Supreme Court Justice Nunes Marques requests PGR opinion on Bolsonaro review

Supreme Court Justice Nunes Marques has ordered the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGR) to submit a formal opinion within ten days regarding a criminal review filed by Jair Bolsonaro. The order, signed on October 26, 2026, pertains to Criminal Review 6.268/DF.

The judicial dispatch serves as a procedural step to hear the PGR before any analysis of the review is conducted. It does not constitute a decision to annul any convictions or suspend the fulfillment of sentences, nor does it set a date for a trial or indicate the rapporteur’s position on the defense’s arguments.

Bolsonaro currently has two separate requests for criminal review under the rapporteurship of Nunes Marques. In a previous request, the PGR had already issued an opinion against the defense’s claims. This new deadline is specific to the second review process.
