PGR requests suspension of Federal Police Director-General's removal
The Prosecutor General's Office (PGR) has formally requested the Supreme Federal Court (STF) to suspend the removal of Federal Police Director-General Andrei Rodrigues and Intelligence Director Leandro Almada. The PGR argues that there is no concrete evidence of illegal activity or improper surveillance of STF Minister André Mendonça to justify such a drastic measure.
Prosecutor General Paulo Gonet emphasized that the appointment and maintenance of the Federal Police chief is an administrative prerogative of the President. The PGR warned that removing the leadership could disrupt ongoing investigations and pose a risk to public order. The current legal dispute follows a decision by Minister Mendonça to remove the officials on September 8, citing concerns over unauthorized intelligence reports.
In related developments, STF President Edson Fachin met with Rodrigues to discuss investigations involving Banco Master and the INSS. The Federal Police are currently restructuring intelligence reports to ensure they remain strictly informative and descriptive, avoiding personal judgments about STF ministers to maintain institutional neutrality.
