Brazil Supreme Court minister André Mendonça sends Bolsonaro film financing probe to PGR
Supreme Court minister André Mendonça will forward to the Prosecutor-General’s Office (PGR) a request to investigate the financing of the biographical film "Dark Horse" about former president Jair Bolsonaro. The probe focuses on alleged payments from businessman Daniel Vorcaro, the former owner of the collapsed Master Bank, to fund the movie after a recording showed senator Flávio Bolsonaro asking Vorcaro for financial support.
The PGR will decide whether to open a formal inquiry, archive the case, or conduct further preliminary investigations. The investigation follows earlier Master‑Bank inquiries, and the case has been placed under level‑3 secrecy. Private forensic analysis indicated the film cost about US$13.4 million, roughly half of the US$75 million Vorcaro allegedly transferred to a fund linked to the project. The outcome could impact Flávio Bolsonaro’s pre‑campaign positioning and broader scrutiny of political financing in Brazil.
