Brazil Supreme Court minister André Mendonça sets conditions on Vorcaro plea deal, says money not his ambition

Justice minister André Mendonça of Brazil’s Supreme Court said he will only move forward with the plea‑agreement negotiations of ex‑Bank Master controller Daniel Vorcaro if the Federal Police or the Attorney‑General’s Office take part directly in the talks. He is the case’s rapporteur and would need to approve any agreement, but he does not want to conduct the negotiations himself. Prosecutors consider the latest proposal lacking new evidence, and the plea deal remains stalled.

In a separate public lecture, Mendonça declared that personal fulfillment does not come from money, political power or institutional status, stressing that his ambition lies elsewhere. He said the highest legal position in the nation does not bring the “fullness of life.”
