Brazil Supreme Court orders release of judge in Unha e Carne operation

Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes has authorized the release of federal judge Macário Júdice. Júdice, who serves on the 2nd Regional Federal Court (TRF 2), was arrested in December during the second phase of Operation Unha e Carne.

The Federal Police investigation focuses on the leaking of confidential information regarding an inquiry into former state deputy TH Joias. As part of the court's decision, Júdice's preventive detention has been converted into precautionary measures, including the mandatory use of an electronic ankle monitor.

The operation previously led to the arrest of Rodrigo Bacellar, the former president of the Rio de Janeiro Legislative Assembly. Legal counsel for Bacellar stated that Justice Moraes also decided to transfer him from the Mossoró federal penitentiary to the Rio de Janeiro penal system, though the specific destination remains unconfirmed.
