Senator Jaques Wagner targeted in Brazil's Compliance Zero operation
On June 18, 2026, Brazil's Federal Police launched the ninth phase of Operation Compliance Zero, authorized by the Supreme Court. Eighteen search and seizure warrants were executed in Bahia, São Paulo and the Federal District, focusing on Senator Jaques Wagner (PT‑BA), the government’s leader in the Senate, and businessman Augusto Ferreira Lima, former partner of Banco Master.
The investigation probes a alleged multi‑billion‑real scheme of fraud, corruption and money laundering linked to Banco Master, once owned by Daniel Vorcaro. Prosecutors allege Wagner received undue advantages, including a luxury apartment in Salvador valued at about R$ 2.5 million, R$ 3.5 million transferred to the family‑linked BN Financeira Ltd., private‑jet use and concert tickets, as well as legislative advocacy on credit‑consigned loan limits and the expansion of the FGC coverage.
Federal police seek to determine whether Wagner acted in exchange for these benefits. Alongside the searches, precautionary measures such as a ban on contact between suspects, suspension of passports and electronic monitoring were imposed. Wagner has not commented; Lima’s defense labelled the raids “unnecessary.” The case is viewed as a potential political blow to President Lula’s re‑election campaign.
