Brazil Supreme Court to review release request for influencer Deolane Bezerra

On 9 June 2026 the Fifth Chamber of Brazil's Superior Tribunal de Justiça (STJ) will hear a request to lift the preventive detention of Deolane Bezerra, a digital influencer and lawyer. Bezerra has been held since 21 May as part of a joint operation by the Public Prosecutor’s Office and São Paulo Civil Police investigating money‑laundering and alleged links to the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC). Prosecutors allege she participated in criminal organization, money‑laundering and drug‑trafficking activities, citing police reports that she moved roughly R$13.6 million in personal accounts between 2018‑2022 and an additional R$14 million through three of her companies, many identified as shell entities sharing addresses with other fictitious firms. Her defence argues that the evidence does not meet the legal criteria for continued preventive detention and that there is no concrete risk to public order or the judicial process. The initial habeas corpus request was rejected by the STJ presidency, prompting an appeal that will be examined today by the five ministers of the Fifth Chamber. The outcome will determine whether Bezerra remains in custody while the case proceeds in the São Paulo state court.
