Brazil Supreme Court votes to keep Vorcaro relatives in preventive detention
On 23 May 2026 Justice Luiz Fux of Brazil’s Supreme Federal Court voted to maintain the preventive detention of Henrique Vorcaro and Felipe Vorcaro, the father and cousin of former Banco Master owner Daniel Vorcaro. Their continued detention gave the STF’s Second Chamber a 2‑to‑0 partial tally.
The arrests stem from the Federal Police’s Operation Compliance Zero, which probes alleged fraud, money‑laundering and asset‑hiding schemes linked to Banco Master, liquidated by the Central Bank in 2025. Henrique was taken into custody on 14 May in Belo Horizonte; Felipe was detained on 7 May. Prosecutors say they participated in a criminal network called “A Turma”, receiving monthly transfers of about R$ 400 000.
The case was suspended after Justice Gilmar Mendes requested a 90‑day review. Other judges’ votes are pending, with Justice Dias Toffoli recused. The rapporteur, Justice André Mendonça, argued that strong evidence and the risk to the investigation justified maintaining detention, noting that lesser measures would be insufficient.
