Brazil survey shows low confidence in retirement and investment planning

A recent survey conducted by Datafolha for Fenaprevi reveals significant uncertainty regarding retirement among Brazilians. Only 28% of respondents believe they will be able to retire by age 60, while 11% believe they will never be able to stop working. Although 59% of those surveyed consider 60 to be the ideal retirement age, current INSS regulations require women to be at least 62 and men at least 65.

The study highlights a lack of financial preparation, as 65% of active workers intending to rely on public social security do not know how much they will receive. Furthermore, 92% of current retirees identify the INSS as their primary source of income.

In a separate study by Anbima and Datafolha, approximately 23 million Brazilians who do not currently invest expressed intentions to start in 2026. However, financial stability remains a hurdle; in 2025, only 33% of Brazilians managed to save any money, and 31% lacked an emergency fund.
