Brazil targets doubling pet food exports within five years

The Pet South America trade fair, held in São Paulo, highlighted significant growth potential within the Latin American pet market. During the event, projections presented at the Petfood Forum Brasil indicated that Brazil could double its pet food exports over the next five years, potentially reaching 200,000 tons annually.

Industry experts note that Brazil's robust production structure and low dependence on imported raw materials enhance its international competitiveness. The country currently stands as the second-largest global producer of pet food, supported by a domestic pet population exceeding 166 million.

Despite this potential, high tax burdens remain a challenge, with some pet food taxes in Brazil reaching 51%, significantly higher than rates in the United States or the European Union. Nevertheless, there is increasing momentum in specialized segments such as natural foods, wet food, snacks, and supplements.
