Brazil targets water loss reduction through AI and data

Brazil faces significant challenges in its sanitation sector, wasting over 4 billion cubic meters of treated water annually. According to a study by the Instituto Trata Brasil, this represents approximately 40% of all water produced, a volume sufficient to supply roughly 77 million people.

To address this, the federal government has set a target to reduce water losses to a maximum of 25% by 2033. The industry is increasingly turning to data-driven technologies to meet this goal. Solutions combining artificial intelligence, telemetry, and the Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT) are being used to monitor consumption and identify leaks, anomalies, and operational inefficiencies.

Thiago Rondon, COO and CTO of Group Link One, notes that these technologies allow operators to shift from a reactive model to a proactive, data-oriented approach. This digital transformation aims to improve the financial sustainability of concessionaires and enhance water security for cities.
