Brazil tax reform spurs electronic invoicing upgrades for utilities and businesses

The state water and sewage company Caerd in Rondônia will launch an electronic water bill (NFAg‑e) in July 2026, adding a QR code and access key to improve transparency, security and ease of consulting tax documents. The change aligns with the new tax reform rules and is presented by Governor Marcos Rocha as a step toward modernising public services.

At the same time, the federal tax authority has released the technical schemas NT 2026.002 for electronic fiscal documents such as NF3‑e (electricity) and NFCom (communication services). These XML specifications define required fields, validation rules and structure, allowing software developers, ERP vendors and accounting firms to adapt their systems ahead of the rollout of the new federal CBS tax and the state‑municipal IBS tax. Companies are urged to update their systems, test internally and coordinate with accountants to avoid document rejections and compliance issues.
