Brazil technology leaders discuss AI integration in banking and telecommunications

At the Febraban Tech 2026 event in São Paulo, industry leaders discussed the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) within the Brazilian financial and telecommunications sectors.

Marisa Reghini, Vice President of Digital Business and Technology at Banco do Brasil, highlighted the need for a new trust infrastructure. She noted that as AI agents begin acting on behalf of clients, institutions must define clear boundaries regarding what these machines are authorized to do, including specific transaction types and value limits. This evolution follows the trust models established by Pix and Open Finance, now adding a layer involving banks, humans, and machines.

Caixa Econômica Federal is also addressing these challenges, with executives noting that determining when AI agents can execute transactions is a primary operational focus.

In the telecommunications sector, TIM has completed a stage of its national network modernization program. The company is incorporating AI into its antennas to anticipate failures and automate signal distribution, preparing infrastructure for 5G Advanced. This initiative is part of a three-year investment plan (2025–2027) to update over 9,500 antennas, aiming to benefit 25 million customers across 692 municipalities.
