Brazil to deploy National Force to Amazonas-Colombia border

The Brazilian National Force of Public Security will join the Federal Police in a 90-day operation to strengthen security along the border with Colombia. The deployment will focus on the municipality of Tabatinga in the state of Amazonas, a strategic area identified as a critical point for combating transnational crimes.

According to Ordinance 1.313/2026, published in the Official Gazette, the mission includes patrolling, maintaining public order, and protecting citizens and property. This initiative is part of the 'Amazonia Plan: Security and Sovereignty' (Plano Amas), which aims to increase state presence and operational capacity in the region.

The operation targets illicit activities common to the border, including drug trafficking, smuggling, and environmental crimes. The exact number of personnel will be determined by the National Force Directorate based on logistical planning and coordination with state security forces.
