Brazilian women's football pioneers honored in Brasília parade

During the September 7 Independence Day parade in Brasília, eleven pioneer athletes of Brazilian women's football were honored. The group, which includes players from the 1980s and 1990s, paraded in an open vehicle along the Esplanada dos Ministérios.

The tribute celebrates the history of the sport in Brazil, especially as the country prepares to host the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup. Notable participants include Dilma Mendes, a three-time world champion coach, and Formiga, who competed in seven FIFA World Cups.

The honorees represent different eras of the sport, including the generation that participated in the 1988 Experimental Women's World Cup in China and those who played during the 1990s. The event also featured 40 girls from a social project in the Federal District.
