Brazil to Maintain US Cooperation After Terrorist Designation of PCC and CV

The United States formally classified Brazil's criminal factions Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) and Comando Vermelho (CV) as terrorist organizations. Brazil's government said it will keep the existing police and judicial cooperation with the United States, stressing that the designation is mainly political and does not change the operational framework for fighting organized crime.

Officials highlighted concerns that the U.S. terrorist label could broaden the scope for unilateral actions, such as financial sanctions or restrictions, and increase Brazil's vulnerability to external pressure. However, they consider the prospect of any U.S. military intervention in Brazil to be remote, especially during an election year. The plan is to continue intelligence sharing, border control, and financial investigations while resisting any automatic legal changes imposed by the U.S. decision.
