Brazil to mandate digital B2B credit instruments by 2027

Brazil is set to undergo a significant transformation in its corporate financial infrastructure with the mandatory implementation of the 'duplicata escritural' (book-entry duplicate). This digital version of the debt instrument will replace traditional paper models, providing a 100% digital record of sales and debts to enhance security, transparency, and traceability in B2B transactions.

The mandate will apply to large corporations starting in June 2027, with a gradual rollout to medium-sized companies by the end of that year. Small businesses will be required to comply by June 2028.

A study by Qive analyzing over 500 million invoices issued between 2023 and 2025 highlights the scale of this shift. The data shows that 76.8% of B2B operations in Brazil are conducted on credit. Specifically, 384.5 million documents involved a payment gap of more than one day, totaling R$ 4.1 trillion in transactions. Furthermore, 256 million invoices had a gap exceeding 15 days, representing R$ 2.41 trillion in credit operations that impact corporate cash flow and financial planning.
