Brazil tourism ministry mandates race, ethnicity and gender data in Cadastur registry

The Ministry of Tourism, led by Minister Gustavo Feliciano, announced that the Cadastur system – the official registry for tourism professionals and companies – will now require the entry of race, ethnicity and gender information. The change is intended to map the sector’s diversity, guide public policies, reduce labour market inequalities and promote Afro‑Brazilian tourism initiatives.

A webinar scheduled for 30 June will advise Afro‑entrepreneurs on formalisation and access to funding, such as the General Tourism Fund, which plans to make more than R$1 billion available in 2026. The measure was presented at the 2026 Tourism Fair alongside the 13th Tourism Market Intelligence Bulletin, highlighting 101 Afro‑tourism experiences and 32 events across Brazil.

The new data collection aims to improve the sector’s competitiveness, facilitate credit lines and professional training, and support community‑based tourism in quilombos and traditional territories.
