Brazil traffic fines for unauthorized road blockades can reach R$ 35,000
Under the Brazilian Traffic Code (CTB), organizing unauthorized blockades of public roads carries heavy financial and legal penalties. The fine for organizing such actions is R$ 17,608.20, which doubles to R$ 35,216.40 if the offense is repeated within a 12-month period. In addition to the fine, organizers face a 12-month suspension of their driver's license and vehicle removal.
There is a distinction between organizers and participants. Drivers who use their vehicles to participate in a blockade without being the organizer face a fine of R$ 5,869.40, which increases to R$ 11,738.80 upon recidivism.
Other high-cost infractions in Brazil include driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, refusing breathalyzer tests, and participating in unauthorized street racing. These offenses carry a fine of R$ 2,934.70 and can lead to criminal charges due to the risks posed to public safety.
