São Paulo, Espírito Santo boost traffic safety with radar checks

The municipality of Cotia in São Paulo state will carry out a verification of its traffic radars from 10 August to 21 August. The operation, conducted by the Institute of Weights and Measures of São Paulo (IPEM‑SP), will test the accuracy of speed‑enforcement devices and may cause brief traffic interruptions.

On 29‑30 July, IPEM‑SP, together with the State Traffic Police Command and the Traffic Engineering Company, inspected 11 tanker vehicles transporting hazardous products and 82 tachographs on the Marginal Tietê. Four tankers showed irregularities such as side openings and missing seals, while twelve tachographs were cited for expired verification certificates. Fines can reach up to R$ 1.5 million.

In the state of Espírito Santo, new speed‑and red‑light cameras are being installed on highways ES‑164 and ES‑482 near Cachoeiro de Itapemirim. The devices will monitor ten traffic lanes with a maximum speed limit of 60 km/h. Activation will occur after installation and hand‑over to the concessionaire.
