Brazil: TSE boosts security and STF suspends Pernambuco law
The Superior Electoral Court (TSE) has allocated R$ 233,000 to enhance security for its members, including the purchase of bulletproof vests. The equipment will be available to magistrates, security teams, and official drivers. This measure follows reports of potential actions against the court and has also led to increased security at the residences of magistrates.
In judicial news, Supreme Federal Court (STF) Minister André Mendonça has issued a preliminary injunction suspending a provision in the Pernambuco Constitution. The suspended rule allowed state public servants to receive cash payments for unused vacation and premium leave. The measure follows a challenge by Governor Raquel Lyra, who argued that the constitutional amendment violated legislative initiative rules.
In local politics, State Deputy Dani Portela has announced her intention to run for the Mayor of Recife in 2028, expressing readiness to represent the Workers' Party (PT) in the race.
